(High-Power Operation)
Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are widely used energy storage devices characterized by high energy density, high energy efficiency, and long cycle life. With the rapid growth of electric vehicles and renewable energy systems, further improvements in battery performance, safety, durability, and cost are essential to meet the increasing demands for sustainable energy storage technologies.
A key to achieving these goals lies in the design and optimization of porous electrodes, where electrochemical reactions and lithium-ion transport take place. The complex interactions among electrochemical kinetics, ion and electron transport, heat transfer, and material degradation strongly influence battery performance, particularly under fast-charging and high-power operating conditions.
Our laboratory focuses on understanding the fundamental transport and electrochemical phenomena governing lithium-ion battery performance and degradation, as well as designing electrode materials and structures to enhance energy storage capabilities. We conduct comprehensive research spanning material characterization, electrode structural design, electrochemical and thermal modeling, and battery performance evaluation and analysis, with the aim of developing safer, more efficient, and longer-lasting energy storage systems.
