Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells (PEFCs) are power generation devices characterized by high energy conversion efficiency. To promote the widespread adoption of fuel cell vehicles, which are expected to play an important role in next-generation transportation, further improvements in fuel cell performance and reductions in cost are essential.
A key to achieving these goals lies in the porous electrodes where electrochemical reactions take place, as well as the porous materials responsible for supplying hydrogen and air to the electrodes and removing water generated during operation.
Our laboratory focuses on understanding and controlling the formation mechanisms of porous electrode structures to enhance the transport of reaction products in PEFCs. We conduct comprehensive research spanning the entire development process, from material synthesis and fabrication to device performance evaluation and analysis.
